Stella Belly Bear is Sick

 

   Thursday August 7th, 2014

   Yesterday Tara and I received some terrible news about our 10 week old Corgi puppy Stella. She wasn't feeling well yesterday with some bad diarrhea and vomiting. The part that really had me scared was that she would not drink a drop of water.

 

   I rushed her to the vet and during her long and thorough checkup, she was tested strongly positive for Parvovirus. Fortunately we found it before it was too late.

 

   I was told to bring her to an overnight emergency hospital that could keep her for several days hooked up to fluids and monitoring her white blood cell count. Naturally it began to set in that this was a very serious condition and Tara and I were on our way to the hospital.

 

   We were asked to call when arriving at the hospital so that they could come out and take little Stella in a special entrance to keep her quarantined away from other animals.

 

   Tara and I were taken into an office and sat down with Stella's new doctor were given a detailed explanation of how serious the Parvovirus is and how aggressive her treatment needed to be. In the most difficult battle of head versus heart that I have ever experienced, we agreed to do everything that we could to save her. Unfortunately this meant agreeing to a plan costing up to $5,700 if all went well for 48 to 72 hours.

 

   Currently Stella is surviving and fighting in the hospital and we are trying to figure out how to pay. We hope to have her home within the next few days to continue to try to nurse her back to health. We will keep you all updated below. - Joey

   Stella is fighting away in the hospital as we speak and so far is looking to be a survivor if we can keep her treatment up.    Friday August 8th, 2014

   Last night we got to visit the little bear! They took us back into the room where she was being kept, before entrance we had to bleach our feet and we weren't allowed to touch her. As soon as we walked in she perked up a bit, moving around her cage and telling us how much she hated it there.

 

   They were able to back off her nausea medicine a little and as of 6 this morning back off her fluids as well. She's been eating pretty well but we're still trying to keep an even head. No sense is premature celebration. The thing that really sucks with this virus is that it can come in waves; one day she'll look great then the next she could take a dive.

 

   I can not thank you guys enough for all of the kind words, prayers, and donations. It's crazy to think what an impact little Stella has made in such a short time. As soon as we know more we will let you all know. ❤️

   Saturday August 9th, 2014

   The little nugget got to come home last night! Anyone who see's me today, please excuse my dark circles and the coffee cup that will be glued to my hand because I didn't sleep at all. I was in full blown mama-mode.

 

   She slept really well last night and was able to keep all her medicines down. She even pooped 3 times! We're still a little worried because food and water don't seem to interest her much. But she's been pretty energetic and playful, chewing on EVERYTHING!

 

   I called the vet to let her know how she did through the night and she seemed pleased. We're just waiting now to see what happens and keeping our fingers crossed. We'll try to update as much as possible, but we want to give her all the attention we can.

   Sunday August 10th, 2014

   Our little bear is bouncing off the walls this morning. She has a plenty of energy from eating her entire plate of homemade chicken and rice in the middle of the night. She still doesn't seem to be super thirsty but that could have something to do with keeping her hydrated by other means. All in all, things are starting to look up for her. She is acting like a normal puppy who just isn't very hungry.

 

   Plenty of energy, zero vomiting, zero diahrrea, and eating some food are all really strong signs that her treatment has been excellent and the virus is losing the fight. Keep your fingers crossed. -Joey
