NICK CARVER

Shooting only with traditional film, Nick Carver approaches photography with a purist mentality to never utilize digital manipulation to alter his images. The effects achieved in his photos are all done in-camera and on-location through the use of specialized shooting techniques like multiple exposures and traditional darkroom developing processes. This style of shooting flies in direct opposition to the modern trend of Photoshop and computer editing, but Nick prefers this approach to photography for its timeless look, the greater challenges involved, and for the fact that he feels a deeper sense of connection with his subjects as a result of the slower pace attendant to film photography.

Photography has been Nick Carver’s vehicle of choice for forwarding a message of environmental appreciation since his introduction to 35mm photography at the age of twelve. It was in a middle school elective class where he picked up his first all-manual film camera and began his path towards a career as a professional photographer. With the exception of that first class in 1999, all of Nick’s training in photography has come entirely through personal study and experimentation with both film and digital mediums.

With each image, Nick strives to increase the viewers' appreciation for nature and their passion for protecting it. He hopes to capture the natural world in such a way that his photos will impart his own appreciation for the environment and remind the viewer of the beauty that could be lost forever if we, as a society, don't take the necessary measures to protect our open spaces and wilderness areas. Nick’s greatest joy comes from being in nature and capturing the world in a way that will instill a sense of wonderment and happiness in his viewers through the art of photography.
